Technical partner for the fourth year in a row, Christie®, global leader in digital projection solutions, will be responsible for all digital projection at the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival for the complete Official Selection, Out of Competition and Marché du Film elements.
As technical partner, Christie will supply brand-new DLP Cinema® digital projectors for the projection of major works throughout the Festival. Of the 22 digitally equipped theatres that the Festival now has at its disposal, 11 of them are equipped with the new range of Christie Solaria™ projectors – the CP2220 and the CP2230.
Fully compliant with DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) specifications, the Christie Solaria series is upgradeable and ready for 4K digital cinema. Its Christie Brilliant3D™ technology also offers the brightest 3D projection on the market, with an output of 32,000 ANSI lumens (CP2230).
“For the fourth year in a row, it is a huge privilege to see our digital projectors playing such a critical role in this key event in international cinema”, said Christie EMEA Vice President, Dale Miller. “A pioneer in the film industry for more than 80 years, Christie is again making available its expertise and experience to the world of cinema.”
“After 3 successful years alongside our partner XDC, we have signed a 3-year agreement with the Cannes Film Festival. This agreement covers the provision of technical and logistical aspects of 2D and 3D digital projection and is proof of the trust and respect that cinema professionals have for Christie,” says Pascal Gervais, Director of Development for Christie, France.
This agreement comes into effect at a time when France is speeding up its switch to digital. In April 2010, there were no fewer that 1000 digitally equipped theatres, representing nearly 20% of all screens in use. 75% of these 1000 theatres are thus able to show the 3D versions of films offered by distributors.*
Christie (christiedigital.com) manufactures the most widely used digital cinema projectors on the market today. The company has reached the historical milestone of 11,000 active 2K digital cinema installations across the world. With 62% of the global market in digital installations and a vote of confidence in its projectors from the biggest international film event, Christie continues to lead the way as the most cutting-edge technology brand for 2D and 3D digital projection.
