Hollywood, CA, United States, 2010/05/14 - Showing in The Flight Theater @ The Complex, June 10-13 - Written and directed by poet/playwright, Evy Trezvant. A powerful and moving theatrical play for every women, girl child and individual to see.
With a full cast of inspirational performances consisting of 29 actors, actresses and poets; The audience will share in the experiences of four young girls: Maya, Anna, Vanessa and Eman, and watch them as they grow to become women.
We will laugh, cry and celebrate as we partake in their stories of triumph, struggle and becoming while seeking to find their own identity and self-worth in a male dominated society.
The play will demonstrate the effects of abuse (emotional, verbal and physical) on our children, in particular the girls. We’ll watch as Anna struggles to gain self worth after watching her father beat her mother; How Maya will strive to define her own images of beauty; And how Eman will learn to accept growing up as a bi-racial child. We’ll also share in the experiences with Vanessa and her pains of abandonment.
Evy Trezvant, Writer and Director, explains the importance of empowering our young girls and women with her poem: “Rites of Passage”
“Wombman once walked with concrete shoes, built strength.
Learned to handle resistance,
so she could go back and carry her sister;
Who is not heavy because she has prepared for this.
She is strong enough for the both of them, and teaches her sister the technique for walking with concrete shoes
And how to slowly chip away at the weight”
