ASPVA in collaboration with Texas Tech University will offer a Texas Education Agency (TEA) accredited curriculum and a world-class arts education for full-time students. The Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD) offers customized educational solutions for schools such as ASPVA to offer a college preparatory academic curriculum with an optimal schedule allowing students to hone their academic and artistic talents without sacrificing their physical or emotional well-being, family time, or other pursuits. TTUISD currently serves 77,887 students, and their average GPA, SAT and ACT composite scores are above both the state and national average. A dual diploma will be issued; one by TTUISD for the academic accomplishments and a second will be issued by ASPVA for artistic accomplishments.
ASPVA Founder, Carol de Cardenas explains, "The TTUISD diploma is honored by colleges and universities world-wide should the student desire to pursue a college education, which is what we at ASPVA recommend. Our small-school environment, a student/teacher ratio of 1:17, meaningful homework, and regularly scheduled conferences with parents and students allows for students to progress through the curriculum at a faster rate." The mornings are dedicated to academics, and the afternoon is reserved for electives and daily wellness activities.
This schedule also allows ASPVA to present a half-day curriculum to homeschoolers which offers the same pre-college fine arts classes available to 6th-12th grade students in our full-time program. We currently offer classes in theater, music, dance and visual arts. Students will participate in class sessions Monday - Friday from 12:30 - 3:30 pm. The ASPVA calendar applies, and students will have 175 instructional days per school year.
Enrollment is now open for both full-time students and homeschooled students interested in our half-day program. Informational meetings are available, and auditions will be scheduled once completed applications are received. Enrollment for 6th-8th graders is based on artistic promise, and artistic talent for 9th - 12th graders.
About The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts
The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts (theaustinschool.org) is a place for students who want to pursue academic and artistic excellence where they will be honored by passionate, inspiring teachers while celebrating creativity, community and service. ASPVA began by offering dance classes for all levels as part of Phase I of its development beginning in 2006. Phase II currently offers master classes in the arts and unique wellness activities including a performance jump rope team through CONNECTIONS, an outreach program created for 1st - 12th graders, on-site in partnering schools and other student organizations. In fall 2010, ASPVA will unveil a private school offering an accredited college-prepratory curriculum, a world class arts education and daily wellness program as part of Phase III. The same pre-college fine arts classes are also available to homeschoolers as part of our half-day curriculum.
