IPHostMonitor, Inc. has announced today the availability of a new add-on tool for IPHost Network Monitor – SMS (text message) via GSM modem/phone alert, that allows sending notifications as SMS using GSM modem or phone attached to a monitoring server.
This add-on provides a most reliable alerting mechanism for sending notifications when performance of monitored server or application becomes unacceptable or it is completely inaccessible. SMS via GSM modem alert is the latest addition to the extensive alerting system of IPHost Network Monitor, it supports alerting by email, instant messengers (Jabber, Google Talk, ICQ, AOL), SMS over email, audio and visual alerts, also system can be set to execute program or run script over SSH (on monitoring server or on remote computer), or manage network equipment using SNMP SET command.
Reliability of problem notifications delivery mechanism is especially important for monitoring of business critical applications and services. Even a small outage in business critical application availability can lead to substantial losses so businesses should do their best to avoid outages or to minimize negative impacts by a timely reaction to the problems and notifications by SMS helps to do the job.
SMS alert template includes a link to summary report and mobile version of IPHost Network Monitor web interface allows taking a look at reports and logs then start recovery actions. Secondary modem/phone can be used to increase alerts delivery reliability. SMS alerts can be sent to several phone numbers at the same time.
