The 34th Annual International Ventriloquists' ConVENTion, sponsored by Vent Haven Museum, will be held at the Drawbridge Inn and Convention Center, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, on July 14-17, 2010.
Nearly 400 ventriloquists are expected to attend this year's ConVENTion, which will feature group workshops, round-table discussions, tours of near-by Vent Haven Museum, nightly performances for attendees, and junior and senior open mic sessions. Topics range from showmanship to microphone technique, marketing an act to creativity and uniqueness. In addition, Todd Oliver and his talking dog and Brad Cummings will be appearing on the Saturday Night All Star Show. ConVENTion favorite Jeff Dunham will lecture on "Enhancing Your Performance Skills;" and South Korea's top vent Jae Woo An will appear on the International Show. A special session for youngsters entitled Junior Vent University is also included.
"This convention enables beginning and amateur ventriloquists to meet and talk with working professionals who, in many cases, inspired our attendees to take up ventriloquism. We also offer meaningful workshops and seminars for everyone from those just getting into ventriloquism to full-time professionals," said Mark Wade, Executive Director of the ConVENTion.
Vent Haven Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of "dummy"-related paraphernalia, is also located in Ft. Mitchell — near Cincinnati, Ohio. The museum's unique collection of puppets, photographs, novelty items and memorabilia offers an entertaining, historic and artistic view of ventriloquism.
The ConVENTion will also feature two large "Dealer Rooms" with over 25 suppliers of ventriloquist characters, props, how-to materials, collectibles and more.
The theme this year is "Focusing on the Future" and that's where we want to take our fascinating art - far into a bright future for all vents.
The Vent Haven International Ventriloquist Convention (venthavenconvention.com) is the only convention dedicated to the art of ventriloquism. Held each year in Ft. Mitchell, KY at the Drawbridge Inn & Convention Center, this event has seen about 12,000 ventriloquists through the years learn about the ancient art of "belly-talking." Unlike popular belief, the art of ventriloquism is alive and well. The ConVENTion has been attended by such noted personalities as Jimmy Nelson, Jeff Dunham, Jay Johnson, Terry Fator, Ronn Lucas, Kevin Johnson, and Candice Bergen. It was the location for the world premier of the documentary I'm No Dummy and has paid tribute to two greats from the past, Edgar Bergen and Paul Winchell.
