Washington, DC, United States, 2010/05/01 - Thomas J. Payne of Springfield Missouri joined a VIP entourage to China last December at the special invitation of the City of Zhengzhou and the Zhengzhou College of Economics.
A Certified Public Accountant and internationally recognized higher education consultant, Payne was invited as one of four VIP members of Dr. Fred DiUlus’ delegation of American experts in their respective fields in December. DiUlus is the CEO and Founder of Global Academy Online, Inc., a Washington DC based university builder.
Mr. Payne and other members of the DiUlus VIP delegation were invited as guests of Zhengzhou City local government officials and hosted by the Zhengzhou College of Economics, one of the Provinces most dynamic new universities. The goal of the VIP delegation was to promote bilateral, long-term educational and economic cooperation for both Zhengzhou College of Economics and the City of Zhengzhou with American organizations. Mr. Payne states, “This was an amazing trip. I believe you are going to see tremendous growth in Zhengzhou’s CBD over the next few years. The Zhengzhou College of Economics will play an important role in the development of the CBD.”
Mr. Payne and other members of the VIP Delegation met with local government officials and officials of Zhengzhou College of Economics to explore and undertake ideas for developing the University’s new Research Park, a first for the Province. Working with the VIP group, he had a hand in negotiating a $22 million dollar funding package for development of a joint venture between the ancient Shaolin Temple and 3D animation game producer Entertainment Arts Research, Inc. (EARI) of Atlanta, Georgia.
Following the preliminary meetings with the Shaolin, Payne was part of the official negotiating team that met again in Atlanta in late January that witnessed the finalization of the agreement between the Shaolin and EARI in China in February. Dr. DiUlus states, “Tom Payne’s robust and enthusiastic support and familiarization with Chinese values and customs contributed greatly to our successful conclusion of the talks and the ultimate twelve year agreement that came of it.”
The former Senior Vice President for University Relations with the worldwide student organization, Students In Free enterprise (SIFE), Payne helped grow the organization from 176 member schools to over 800 in the U.S. and from one nation to over 40 nations including chapters he helped recruit in Southeast Asia.
Today, Mr. Payne is a General Partner in the Sino-American Bridge Consulting Group and Director of University Relations for Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda, the largest student business organization in the USA. He has received the Sam M. Walton Award from Wal*Mart Inc., the Leavey Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education from the Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses Outstanding Educator Award, and several others. He has been published in numerous refereed journals.
