A New Fearless You Shows How Stressed-Out Grownups Can Stop Playing Childhood Games
Taxes. Rising unemployment. The IRS. Getting into a bathing suit before summer. All of these “fear” factors contribute to April being dubbed “Stress Awareness Month”. And just in time is this month’s release of a new thought provoking book – A New Fearless You, by Evonne Weinhaus, and Cindy Smith which offers a fresh approach to overcoming fears expressed in the games grown-ups still play but thought they left behind.
“Although many grown-ups think they stopped playing childhood games long ago, they still play games like Hide and Seek, Mother May I, Simon Says and Tag when they’re stressed out or they’re afraid,” says co-author Weinhaus. “They just don’t know it. We use games to describe your fears because fears are scary and debilitating. We convert them into a lighthearted language that makes them less daunting to tackle.”
What makes Weinhaus an expert on fear? The book originates from Weinhaus’ own past, where she was diagnosed with a brain tumor that literally cut her off from all her emotions. In some ways this could be blissful, yet in other ways stressful! Once the benign tumor was removed, she was left with a flood of emotions, the primary one being fear. Developing coping skills and providing relief became a primary mission for Weinhaus as she developed a foolproof process for taking the blindfold off and achieving freedom from fear in the game Pin the Tail.
A New Fearless You takes its readers through a unique four-step process called “Face It, Embrace It, Ace It and Replace It,” thus providing a new definition of fear that ultimately leads to a reduction in stress and resolution of problems that have kept people stuck.
Weinhaus also co-authored two best sellers Stop Struggling with Your Child and Stop Struggling with Your Teen, in addition to appearing on Oprah, and Good Morning America.
