Young entrepreneurs looking to make their business ideas a reality will have an opportunity to do just that as part of the “Ontario’s Next Entrepreneur” pitch competition to be held at Discovery 2010, the annual innovation showcase presented by Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).
The pitch competition organized by the Impact Entrepreneurship Group for OCE’s Centre for Commercialization of Research (CCR) is open to young entrepreneurs looking to launch their business ideas within the technology, healthcare, services, social media or retail industries.
The competition is open to Ontario undergraduate student teams in university or college, in which at least one member is majoring in a business-related field. The top five teams will gain mass exposure while they pitch their ideas to industry leaders and private investors during Discovery 2010 which takes place May 17 and 18th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The grand prize is an $18,000 micro-loan from CCR that can be used to launch the pitched business idea within the next two to six months. The second place team will be awarded $5,000 worth of advisory services courtesy of Deloitte Consulting. The team that places third will enjoy lunch with Robert Koturbash, the Managing Director of Maple Leaf Angels.
The first phase of the competition requires teams to submit a registration form and short video, showcasing their business idea, on the Discovery 2010 website. Applications are being accepted until April 19, 2010.
