Dropshop the leading provider of eBay selling services in Germany, today released the first comparison of completed eBay ® auctions in Germany and the United States. The new "dropshop index" is designed to give eBay sellers a tool to compare the average closing bids on 20 different items in 20 different categories. The items in the index were all sold on eBay during the previous month, in the United States and Germany. Outside the U.S. market, Germany is eBay’s largest market with nearly 20 million registered users. According to Forrester research Inc., online sales in Europe over the next five years will grow by 33%, compared to 14% for the U.S. market. Germany will play a pivotal role in this projected growth. The new dropshop index will give sellers an unprecedented insight into the German eBay market.
The new dropshop index is an invaluable tool for sellers searching for new online markets to expand into. The dropshop index is a free monthly service. The index for May 2005 is based on 20 common items selected from 20 categories of merchandise sold on eBay Germany and eBay U.S. Here is a summary of the May 2005 dropshop Index.*
1. The index showed a 59% premium was paid on eBay Germany for the same items sold on eBay U.S
2. The Average Sale Price (ASP) for the eBay auctions in the U.S. Was $119.89
3. The Average Sale Price (ASP) for the eBay auctions in Germany was $184.03
4. The lowest price difference was for a digital camera that sold for an average price of $77.02 in the U.S. and $80.26 in Germany. This represents a 4% premium paid by German buyers
5. The greatest price difference was for a laser printer that sold for an average price of $70.01 in the U.S. and $159.23 in Germany. This represents a 127% premium paid by German buyers.
"Since this was our first comparative index, we were quite surprised at how much more buyers on eBay Germany were paying for merchandise vs the U.S. market" said Jim Kingsbury Director of International Market Development at dropshop "There is a tremendous opportunity for sellers based in the U.S. to cash in on this disparity in the amount of money buyers on eBay Germany are willing to pay for merchandise."
Dropshop also offers a customized analysis as well as full eBay selling services for merchants interested in offering very specific types of merchandise on eBay Germany.
