Responding to requests from Mesob fans on Facebook, Mesob Restaurant in northern NJ will host its first Savory Sunday brunch, April 11, 2010, from 11am-3pm, with Ethiopian breakfast selections not featured on the regular menu. The growing Facebook community has already actively participated in the first Facebook Fan dinner which brought face to face conversations to their online discussions. The Facebook page enhances the dining experience at the restaurant with videos and photos of Ethiopian events such as holidays, music, recipes and the traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony.
Items will include a choice of Yetsom FitFit, the Ethiopian staple crepe-like “bread” made primarily of teff flour mixed with a vegetarian sauce, Yesiga FitFit, injera mixed with a meat sauce, Ful, a spiced dish of fava beans flavored with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and ginger, served with a side of yogurt and Telba, a drink made of hand-ground roasted flaxseeds mixed with milk or soy milk.
“Facebook has really given our community a voice and we are excited to listen. Our diners can taste the same breakfast foods we grew up with in Ethiopia.” said Berekti Mengistu, co-owner. Staffed with a warm complement of family and friends, Mesob is owned by Berekti and Akberet Mengistu, sisters from Ethiopia. Ethiopian art and customs are part of the charm of this eclectic restaurant. In his NY Times review, David Corcoran said, “There is one thing you will certainly not want, and that is to leave.”
Mesob (mesobrestaurant.com) is located at 515 Bloomfield Avenue, in Montclair, NJ.
