Habitat for Humanity of Orange County recently took delivery of nearly 7,000 window shades courtesy of a donation by Redi Shade, the world’s premier manufacturer of easy-to-install window coverings.
A portion of the shades will be sold at Habitat ReStores in Orange County and surrounding areas. ReStores sell donated home improvement goods like Redi Shade window coverings—furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances—to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The mission of the stores is to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream, while using proceeds from product sales to help fund the construction of Habitat homes in the community.
“I think the Redi Shade shades will be a huge attraction for our shoppers,” says Joan Ziegler, vice president of communications, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. “They will appeal to both home owners who are looking to change their window coverings as well as interior designers who shop our aisles looking for ideas for their clients. The proceeds will then help us build affordable homes for low-income families in Orange County.”
Habitat OC will also use a portion of the shades for professional installation in remodel projects in the area.
“Our construction department is very excited about the opportunity to use the Redi Shade window coverings,” says Karen Thoms, director of Habitat ReStores. “They will allow us to provide a more finished product for women’s shelters and other home rehabilitation projects.”
The window shade donation marks the beginning of a long-term relationship between Redi Shade and Habitat for Humanity. “Habitat for Humanity works to create affordable, sustainable housing solutions for families in need,” says Richard Konopelski, vice president of sales and marketing for Redi Shade. “At Redi Shade, we believe everyone deserves a safe, affordable home, and so we’re proud to be starting this important partnership with Habitat for Humanity to help fulfill our complementary missions."
The Redi Shade products will be available at the California Habitat ReStores in Santa Ana and Garden Grove. For more information on store locations, go to restoreoc.org.
