Supporters of more than 250 pet rescues and shelters can now more efficiently aid their favorite animal rescue in times of natural disaster or emergency.
Disaster Relief Shopping – launched February 15th. This new program gives pet charities affiliated with the store the ability to choose specific items they need before a disaster hits. Should disaster strike and pet food, first aid, or other pet supplies are needed, pet charities simply ask supporters to go to the Animal Shelter Store, select the charity name from the list of rescues, and click a red “Disaster Relief Shopping” button. This simple button activates the program.
In Disaster Relief Shopping mode, customers/supporters purchase only items the charity has pre selected. Once the order is submitted, it is automatically shipped to the pet rescue or shelter. The pet rescue receives an email providing details about the donor and which emergency items are in route.
The AnimalShelterStore.com Disaster Relief Shopping program was designed to assist an unlimited number of organizations nationwide and is only activated when needed. Previously, shoppers would select a rescue to support and the selected pet charity would receive a monetary donation. With the launch of this program, the charity receives a donation of supplies that they need most, when they need it most.
To see the Disaster Relief Shopping program in action:
1) Go to animalshelterstore.com. Under “Your Favorite Animal Shelter” Select the State of “Washington”, Shelter Name “Happy Tails Rescue”. Then click “update” below the description. Next, click on the Disaster Relief Shopping button at the top. The program is activated for that rescue. Once all participating shelters have added products to their wish list, all customers will see the red button.
The program has been in development since summer of 2009 and was sponsored by Azmira Holistic Animal care, a holistic pet product manufacturer in Arizona and vendor of the AnimalShelterStore.com and NYCShelterStore.com.
AnimalShelterStore.com is succeeded by NYCShelterStore.com . In its testing phase now, the new store will officially launch May 1, 2010 and all donations from purchases made in the store will benefit NYCACC.org, the nation’s third largest municipal shelter covering all of New York City.

The original goal was to help organize and expedite the delivery of supplies during times of disaster and increase online donations for charities throughout the year. The next step is to continue to expand and build e-stores for large animal shelters needing cost effective ways to benefit from their own online store.
