Chicago, IL, United States, 2010/01/14 - Bob Boone and other Philadelphia Phillies guests will shave their heads and sign autographs to raise funds for The Tug McGraw Foundation. Sponsor one of their haircuts, or form your own team and secure pledges for your team members to get haircuts.
Bob Boone, Scott Palmer and other special guests from the Philadelphia Phillies are coming together for an afternoon of “shear madness” as they shave their heads and sign autographs to raise funds for The Tug McGraw Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that addresses the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual impact of neuroscience conditions.
These special guests will be raising money to accelerate new treatments and cures to improve quality of life for children and adults affected by debilitating neuroscience conditions such as brain cancer, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“Tug McGraw’s legacy reaches far beyond the Phillies and we are proud to support the Tug McGraw Foundation in serving patients with brain cancer, traumatic brain injury and posttraumatic stress disorder,” said Scott Palmer, Director of Public Affairs for the Philadelphia Phillies. “Shear Strength is an exciting and fun opportunity to raise awareness and funds that will contribute to improving quality of life for these patients.”
Sponsor one of the special guests’ haircuts, or consider forming your own team and securing pledges for your team members to get a “shear” or “cut”. To set up your own fundraising page, contact Genvieve Goldstein at the Tug McGraw Foundation (tugmcgraw.org). Prizes will be awarded for the top fundraising team and individual. If you cannot join us for the event, consider making a contribution to the Shear Strength Team.
Shear Strength is taking place on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Shady Katie's Pub and Patio, 814 South White Horse Pike, Somerdale, NJ 08083.
During the event, admission to Shady Katie’s is free. A silent auction will include Phillies and Tim McGraw memorabilia and experiences.
Shady Katie’s has a special interest in neuroscience conditions, specifically brain cancer. The bar is managed by Frank Cavallaro, a former New Jersey state trooper whose friend and colleague Denis McDowell succumbed to brain cancer in 2009.
“Brain cancer has impacted those of us at Shady Katie’s through the loss of our friend and former colleague, Denis McDowell, who succumbed to brain cancer last year,” said Frank Cavallaro, manager of Shady Katie’s. “We are happy to do anything we can to help raise money to improve the quality of life for patients with neuroscience conditions.”
