The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has now awarded the Hanover-based software company HaCon with the SBB Best Supplier Award 2009 in the category "information technologies”. On the first corporate group wide supplier day HaCon managing director Peter Talke, representative for the entire team, received the prize of SBB CIO Peter Kummer. The supplier day on November 12th was held in the framework of the Trade Fair for the Public Transport “suissetraffic”.

Around 110 representatives of suppliers to the SBB had accepted the invitation of the group to share experience between purchasers and vendors. To these, SBB annually awards contracts worth around 3.8 billion francs (approximately 2.5 billion Euros). 15 percent of these go to companies outside of Switzerland. The 1,000 of a total of 14,500 foreign suppliers in 2008 include the software specialist HaCon.

Since 1994 HaCon (hacon.de) ensures that millions of SBB customers every day have access to the online timetable worldwide. Since 1989, the SBB is one of the customers of HaCon, specialist in solutions for traffic. Main product of HaCon is the timetable information system HAFAS, which is deployed in many European railways and transport associations and is used internationally for timetable information on the Internet, on mobile devices and in printing.

HAFAS is basis of the online timetable information of SBB. Thus HaCon delivers a decisive contribution to maintaining the stability of the Internet application. Decisive criteria for the award in all eight categories were price, quality, punctuality and service.
