Sleepy Hollow, IL, United States, 2009/11/11 - The First Country of GRAPA Certified Professionals. In a nationwide event open to revenue assurance professionals from all over the country, GRAPA trained and certified the majority of revenue assurance teams from Uganda’s largest telcos.
Having previously certified individual professionals at training events, as well as entire organizations’ finance and operational teams through onsite trainings, the Global Revenue Assurance Professional Association (GRAPA) has now succeeded in certifying the majority of revenue assurance professionals within a single country.
“What was most humbling and gratifying about the experience was that the national training event was organized and hosted by Hawas [Matta, Uganda’s National Chair and Zain Uganda’s Revenue Assurance Manager] in response to overwhelming grassroots demand for standards-based training and professional certification,” said Rob Mattison, GRAPA’s President.
Rob went on to talk about the role that Zain, in particular their corporate group, had played in organizing and hosting the event, “It took great leadership, vision and foresight on the part of the Zain Corporation to recognize that Revenue Assurance has truly become a professional function, much like internal audit.” As a professional association, GRAPA has seen how knowledge exchange and social interaction between trained revenue assurance professionals brings huge dividends—not just to the profession as a whole, but to any organization that employs such bona fide professionals.
GRAPA’s Ugandan National Chair, Hawas Matta, had not originally set out to get the majority of RA professionals in Uganda certified, though as he explains, that is what ended up happening, “In the beginning I was just looking for a way to maximize the value to my team from our company’s training budget—getting more people to attend the training was a way for us to spread out the cost and overhead involved—but it quickly became much more than that.”
At the training event itself, it became clear that there was already a real sense of community among the RA professionals in the country, something that was only enhanced by all of them getting certified together at GRAPA’s training. “I think this is a testament to the tenacity and determination of GRAPA’s members—if it had not been for Hawas and Zain, and if a real sense of urgent need had not made our members push to get trained and certified, none of this would have happened,” said Louis Khor, GRAPA’s Director of Research and Industry Analysis.
