New York City, NY, United States, 2006/06/06 - Academy Award winning actress Celeste Holm gives old fashion Hollywood party at her New York CIty apartment with over 100 special guests.

Celeste Holm, grand dame of stage, screen and countless television performances, celebrated her 89th birthday in good old fashioned Hollywood style. The winner of a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, Ms. Holm is best known for her roles in Gentleman’s Agreement and All About Eve. She is considered a legend in the film and theatrical communities.
The elaborate celebration was held in Ms. Holm’s palatial New York apartment overlooking Central Park. Over 100 guests attended the private party, including long-time friend Kitty Carlisle Hart, Rita Gam, Robert Osborne, Rex Reed, Governor Tom Cain, Senator Roy Goodman, and KT Sullivan, among others.
Billy Stritch, renowned cabaret pianist, crooner and Liza Minnelli protégé, was on hand to entertain the guests. Several guests gathered around the baby grand in an impromptu sing along. Celeste's husband of two years, opera singer Frank Basile, also sang some songs to the birthday girl.

Actress Celeste Holm debuted on the stage in 1936. She has received many honors in her lifetime: the 1968 Sarah Siddons Award for distinguished achievement in Chicago theatre, she was appointed to the National Arts Council by then-President Ronald Reagan, knighted by King Olav of Norway, and inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1992. She remains active for social causes as a spokesperson for UNICEF, and for occasional professional engagements. In April 2006, Holm was presented with one of the first two Lifetime Achievement Awards ever awarded by the SunDeis Film Festival at Brandeis University.
