First Texas Energy Corporation, an Oil & Gas service company based in Houston, Texas, has launched a separate business unit to market electricity to medium and large-sized companies and government agencies. According to the company's Director of Public Relations, Ms. Vivian Matthews, First Texas Energy Corporation will leverage its existing contracts with major REPS to provide the most cost-efficient options for its customers.
This diversification strategy will benefit most of the company’s Oil & Gas clients who are currently spending at least $500,000 annually on electricity. Plans are also underway to offer similar opportunities to small businesses in Spring of 2010. Training of new corporate account managers and independent agents is expected to commence by the beginning of the coming year.
First Texas Energy Corporation (firsttexasenergy.com) intends to broaden the offering, by including price hedging which will give prospective subscribers greater control over both short- and long-term electricity costs. Hedging will also protect the customers from potentially large fluctuations in electricity pricing, explains Ms. Matthews.
The company will focus its electricity trading activities mainly in the Texas area. Texas is the 2nd largest state in the United States and features four big cities with high energy consumption: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and El-Paso. There are abundant deposits of natural gas in several Texas basins, most of which are concentrated in the East Texas. The state is one of the few states in the union where electricity has been deregulated.
