The global seminar program will take place across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia and Japan from September 2009 through December 2009. The seminars will offer participants the opportunity to enhance their understanding of food safety and learn about the latest advances from leaders in the field, as well as Thermo Fisher's food safety scientists.

Program content includes the latest global regulatory information, innovative technology discussions and practical suggestions that will be invaluable to food safety professionals. The sessions will be led by one of several esteemed speakers including Dr. John Gilbert, former science director of Central Science Laboratory (now known as The Food and Environment Research Agency) in the UK, and Dr. Hamide Senyuva, former senior research scientist of TUBITAK_ATAL (Atal Ankara Test and Analysis Laboratory) in Turkey. Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Senyuva are now directors of FoodLife International, an organization dedicated to improving the safety of food through research, consulting and training. Dr. James Seiber, chair of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California Davis in California, and Stewart Reynolds, principal scientist in the Chemical Residue Program at FERA in the UK, complete the team of speakers.

The seminars will explore topics including global perspectives on food safety, improving method performance to comply with new methods and regulatory requirements and the simplification of multi-residue methods for pesticides and veterinary drug residues. Presenters will also discuss new technologies to improve laboratory productivity, including high-resolution mass spectrometry for non-targeted screening in food safety and how these techniques can overcome emerging risks and new threats to our food supply.

"Widely publicized food safety threats highlight the challenges food safety professionals face on a daily basis. Thermo Fisher's food safety program addresses the business realities of improving food safety, using new methods and technologies to mitigate the unique demands of high-throughput testing and the perishable nature of many products. We understand that the industry wants information and relevant content to keep pace with rapidly changing food safety regulations, demands for efficiency and demand for rock-solid results," says Gerry Broski, marketing director for food safety at Thermo Fisher.

Gerry continues, "This global seminar program reinforces Thermo Fisher's commitment to providing its customers with the most innovative food safety advice and solutions. By hosting these seminars, we will bring food safety professionals together to help them forge a better understanding of the regulatory environment, the impact of new regulations on their operations and reveal opportunities for increased performance and productivity."

As one of the most comprehensive suppliers of laboratory, analytical and process solutions for demanding food safety applications, Thermo Fisher is well positioned to provide participants with the most advanced information and advice on current food safety issues. The interactive sessions will also offer participants the unique opportunity to share their experiences and present problems or questions for general discussion.

The Thermo Scientific product offering includes a wide range of sample collection, sample preparation, instrumentation and data management products focused on the needs of the food safety market. In addition, a broad portfolio of chemicals, consumables, equipment and supply chain services are available through the Fisher Scientific brand.
