Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana (Ambala), in collaboration with the Dental Council of India hosted in its campus an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Workshop on “Research Methodology for Dental Professionals” on 24th and 25th August 2009. Such a move is the proof of the changing set-up of Universities and their scaling a new epoch in the terms of education standards for its students. It is for the first time that ICMR has consented to conduct a workshop outside its Government premises and in the premises of any Private University.
The workshop was conducted by eminent panelists comprising of Dr. Bela Shah, chief of Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), New Delhi, Dr. Anil Kohli, President, Dental Council of India, Dr. Ashoo Grover, Scientist, ICMR, Prof. S.G. Damle, Vice Chancellor, M.M. University, and faculty of the Dental and Medical college, MM University. The experts illuminated the participants on the intricacies and salient aspects of carrying out a dental research. “We have conducted this workshop here to enable a meaningful conveyance of the outcomes into appropriate clinical applications so that the ultimate purpose of “health for all” is achieved for the masses at large”, said Dr. Bela Shah. Dr. Anil Kohli also enlightened the gathering on his proposed project on the formation of nation-wide database on dental diseases, dental professionals and their skill levels. Mr. Tarsem Kumar Garg, Chancellor of MM University, also donated a Rupees ten lacs towards the cause.
MM University, in a short span, crystallized into the formation of a constellation of institutions including Medical, Dental, Nursing and Pharmacy Institute with undergraduate and postgraduate courses. “I am very happy that that Institute has taken such an initiative. These activities give better insight to the students and motivate them to excel in their fields. It was widely felt that the workshop would inevitably lead to assuring the rigor and discipline required while conducting dental health care research under aegis of ICMR.
