The special election, slated for Sept. 1st, was set after Tauscher was confirmed as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
Since 2008 the number of women in office has declined. Women are currently down two governors and one House Member (Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand was not replaced by a woman). Women can’t afford to lose any more seats, especially in the male dominated and heated special election in California’s tenth district.
Joan Buchanan has spent years as a top executive at Delta Dental and a highly successful member of the San Ramon Valley School Board while the district went from a $7 million budget deficit to a $11 million-plus rainy day fund during her years there. Meet Joan Buchanan, Candidate for Congress, another amazing women in politics making things happen.
WomenCount began airing on Blog Talk Radio in June of 2009 as a way to not only showcase women in office but as a way to help inspire and encourage other women to run for office as well. Previous guests have included Ohio’s Secretary of State and candidate for U.S. Senate, Jennifer Brunner, Pepper Pike City Council Candidate Jill Zimon, U.S. Congresswomen Judy Chu, as well as author and President of the White House Project, Marie Wilson.
"WomenCount Radio has been a huge success. It's yet another way that WomenCount is leveraging new media to reach out to women all around the country and engage them on issues related to women in politics. Each week we focus on top issues that were covered in our blog as well as interview guests who are really making a difference for women in politics. The shows have been inspiring and entertaining, and as a result our movement continues to grow,” said Stacy Mason, Executive Director of WomenCount.
Tune in to Joan Buchanan on WomenCount Radio on Blog Talk Radio Thursday, August 20 at 7:30pm PST/10:30pm EST.
