The Royal Marsden Manual Online extends the usefulness of the standard reference work on nursing good practice by employing Web 2.0 User Generated Content (UGC) in enabling local trusts to add their own Trust-specific procedure guidelines. Users can comment on procedures in the Manual and add extra information which carries their attribution and contact details. A sophisticated back-end puts control and workflow in the hands of the individual Trust, enabling administrators to manage the workflow process and set their own schedules for review.
The ALPSP award for PUBLISHING INNOVATION is in recognition of a truly innovative approach to any aspect of publication. Applications are judged on their originality and innovative qualities, together with their utility, benefit to their community and long term prospects.
Richard Padley, Managing Director, Semantico, said: 'We are delighted that Wiley Blackwell and ourselves have been nominated for this award. The online manual demonstrates new possibilities for the use of authoritative texts as 'embedded' tools in professional practice and is a perfect example of what can be achieved when transferring print manuals online”
The winner of the award will be announced on 10 September at the ALPSP International Conference Dinner at the Oxford Belfry.

About The Royal Marsden
The Royal Marsden opened its doors in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer treatment, research and education.
For over 150 years, it has been passionate about sharing its knowledge of cancer. This passion and commitment led us to develop The Royal Marsden School of Cancer Nursing and Rehabilitation, the UK's only dedicated provider of cancer education.
Today, together with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, The Royal Marsden is the largest and most comprehensive cancer centre in Europe treating over 40,000 patients every year. It is a centre of excellence, and the only NHS Trust to achieve the highest possible ranking in the Healthcare Commission’s Annual Health Check for the third year in a row.
Since 2004, the hospital’s charity, The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, has helped raise over £43 million to build theatres, diagnostic centres, and drug development units.
Prince William became President of The Royal Marsden in 2007, following a long royal connection with the hospital.
