Marlo Entertainment, one of the newest independent entertainment studios in Hollywood, has named Dianna Perales Harris as the Chief Operating Officer and head of the daily operations of the studio. Perales Harris will continue as the principal producer for Marlo Productions, the feature film arm of the company, but will immediately assume the mantel for the parent company. The role puts Perales Harris in the position of being one of the few Hispanic women, or men, having such a high profile position in the entertainment industry.
Marlo Entertainment (marloentertainment.com) is a broad based entertainment company focused on bringing quality entertainment to an audience that has long been overlooked in terms of a specialized focus from the major and mini Hollywood studios. Marlo Entertainment, through its Film, Television, Animation, New Media, Music and Gaming divisions, is dedicated to financing, acquiring, developing, producing and distributing quality products to three of the largest and fastest growing entertainment consuming audiences in the U.S., the Hispanic, African-American and Asian-American populations.
“I am thrilled about Marlo Entertainment and what the company is going to bring to audiences with our movies, television programs, music, you name it,” Perales Harris said. “And being a Latina, I know that I have a unique opportunity and responsibility to make sure we don’t do business as usual and that we make sure what we offer represents the world as we know it really is, and that is as a truly diverse place. While Marlo Productions has been going a while, with two movies completed under its banner, including last year’s romantic drama, “A Simple Promise,” distributed by Indican Pictures and now out on DVD everywhere, the other divisions of the company are starting fresh. The most ambitious being the launch of Marlo Television, which is a cable television channel all its own, featuring original content as well as syndicated programs. Already in development are several sitcoms and several reality television shows. Marlo Music and Marlo Gaming, also no small undertakings, are gearing up as well. Marlo Music, which has three record labels is expected to release its first artists and singles in early 2010.
“For a new studio, we have been at this for a while, just not under the larger Marlo Entertainment umbrella,” Perales Harris explained. “Marlo Productions was our start and is still our base as at root Marlo is a film company. But over the years we just saw so many areas of synergy in these entertainment areas that it was a no brainer for us to finally make the decision to put it all under one roof.”
