atrexx, a key German satellite service provider, has introduced Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) satellite services on the 2way2sat platform to South America and the Caribbean. The service will be provided via the Intelsat 903 satellite positioned at 34.5 degrees West featuring a C-Band beam over the entire region.

SCPC is a satellite transmission system with a separate carrier for each channel, as opposed to frequency or time division multiplexing that combines many channels on a single carrier.

“atrexx is pleased to be able to extend our service offering to professional users in South America and the Caribbean. The flexibility and scalability of the SCPC system gives businesses the opportunity to expand as and when they need to”, commented Jean-Claude Bisenius, Managing Director of atrexx.

atrexx’ IP access network provides dedicated bandwidth starting at 256kbps and including one IP address, with the option of additional IP addresses as required. All users have access to atrexx’ high-quality customer support and monitoring services. The system is quick to deploy: Users will be required to pay a one-off set-up fee followed by a simple monthly payment.

The primary advantage of SCPC lies in the architecture, which allows the user to quickly set-up a satellite link (point-to-point or point-to-multipoint) without any need to gather other channels at the uplinking teleport. The incremental usage of the satellite transponder enables flexible expansion of the network.

In terms of IP over Satellite, SCPC/SCPC transmission is the preferred choice for applications such as VoIP and VPN that are reliant on low latency. The missing multiplex on an SCPC network means that digital processing is straightforward, resulting in 150 milliseconds less latency compared to DVB/SCPC, making SCPC networks particularly suitable for corporate and other professional networks.

The atrexx 2way2sat SCPC solution enables the provision of ubiquitous IP-based voice, data and video services to businesses at almost any location worldwide. It is the ideal solution for a continent such as South America and the Caribbean where critical infrastructure is often difficult or expensive to rollout to rural or more remote areas. 2way2sat is already used in over 35 countries around the world.

“Now more than ever, business and corporations everywhere are reliant upon a broadband connection that can meet their specific needs whether that is video conferencing, VoIP, or Internet and email access. The 2way2sat SCPC solution can meet their requirements and will also grow with the business when it is ready to do so. Professionals are looking for flexibility, and this is exactly what we are offering them”, Mr. Bisenius concluded.
