DBD LLC (DBD), a division of 360° Communications LLC has adopted green policies to make the company more eco-friendly. Last fall, DBD implemented green policies to reduce their eco-footprint. “Our desire to change as an organization does more than save the environment it reduces our cost of doing business. This is huge, because we are able to pass our savings on to our customers”, says Benita Williams, President of DBD.
DBD researched and tested their green policies. “Years ago we realized the saving potential is huge if companies looked for effective ways to conserve. For example, we eliminated the need for a filing cabinet. If companies went beyond recycling paper and put limitations and restrictions on printing, the cost savings could add up to big dollars over a 12 month period”, says Williams. DBD relies on a partnership with Adobe, proprietary workflows and methods, combined with company knowledge to implement policies and procedures to restrict and limit printing internally. “Our printing policies are living and we are constantly surveying our staff to ensure that the processes and procedures are effective. Our goal is to achieve a paperless office, an ideal office of the future that the younger generation will accept”, says Williams.
Another big cost savings was moving to a remote business model. “We do not require our employees to drive in to the office on a daily basis. By giving employees the freedom to work from home, we were able to reduce the size of our office space, reduce our energy consumption, which reduces our overall eco-footprint. A reduction of our cost to do business is a prime example of savings that we can pass on to our customers… Without question, we provide the same level of service if not better and we expanded our customer base at the same time... To date, we’ve seen tremendous savings from simple changes”, replies Williams.
In addition to controlling paper consumption and reducing the cost of doing business, DBD has implemented mandatory power consumption policies. They replaced every light bulb in each office with energy efficient items. The majority of DBD's office buildings are well lit so they burn very little lights during the day. DBD defeats the vampires (Vampires are electronic appliances plugged in to an electric outlet but not in use.) as they unplug all non-essential electronics in the office when not in use and they turn off all lights and all electronic devices every night. Last year, DBD upgraded their computers, printers, and office appliances with energy efficient models to take advantage of advanced products that offer energy saving and stand-by mode. “We’ve gone as far as banning all bottled water, paper or plastic plates and utensils. We provide filtered water, use real cups, plates, and silverware throughout the day we load the energy efficient dishwasher. It’s the little things that can add up to a reduction in our eco-footprint and big dollar savings over time. Our green workflow consultants saved our company $4, 5000 so far this year by reducing our consumption of energy, ink, paper, bottle water, plastic plates, cups, and other non-mandatory expenses that are harmful to the environment,” says Williams.
Our green policies are not just about saving money, our green policies teach us how to consume less energy and use more materials that are natural to save the environment. Only if we change we can save money and the universe,” says Williams.
