Veolia Transportation announced that the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) has unanimously approved extension of its Las Vegas contract through September 2011. On behalf of RTC, Veolia Transportation operates the largest contracted fixed route bus system in the United States, including bus rapid transit (BRT) service “MAX,” and “Deuce,” double decker buses that run along Las Vegas’ famous Strip. The system includes two facilities and a fleet of some 400 vehicles.

“We are extremely proud to have earned the trust of RTC and to extend our partnership with them,” said Tim Collins, Veolia Transportation’s Las Vegas regional vice president. “Las Vegas continues to lead in transit innovation and customer service because of the RTC’s unwavering commitment to provide the most efficient, safe and reliable transportation to the thousands of residents and tourists who depend on public transit to move about the Las Vegas Valley each year.”

Veolia Transportation has operated bus service and maintenance for the RTC since 1993. The RTC system averages about 45 passengers per service hour and the Deuce service averages over 85 passengers per hour. The Deuce operation is one of the most successful bus routes in the United States and it serves more than one million customers every month. The entire system operates at over 95 percent on-time performance rates based on real-time GPS data.
