Established as a nonprofit and philanthropic organization committed to empowering individuals, the Gaskov Clergé Foundation has been devoted to making a valuable difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Since its inception in 1999, the Gaskov Clergé Foundation has led eight Medical Missions in Les Cayes, Haiti for one week in July or August. This year is no exception for they have already sent precious cargo to Haiti in preparation for their July 27th – July 31st, 2009 mission. Filled with good intentions, doctors from around the US, China, India and Haiti have continued to volunteer their expertise and knowledge to heal or comfort those in the city of Les Cayes who would normally never have access to medical care.
Armed with donated medications, medical equipment and lots of compassion, over 50 volunteer licensed Physicians, Nurses and Medical students are prepared to assist in the fields of Pediatrics, Gynecology, Neurology, psychiatry and Internal Medicine. For their upcoming mission in Les Cayes, these “angels”, as the community refers to them, will provide free check-ups and medication, perform major and minor surgeries, all at no cost to the patients.
Named after Gaskov Clergé who passed away suddenly in 1999 from Liver Cancer, this organization has kept this fine man’s legacy alive by promoting health, sports, and education in the sciences. In addition to the medical missions, GCF has awarded over 120 scholarships each year to deserving children who otherwise would not receive the education they are entitled to at birth.
Beginning their week-long undertaking on Saturday, July 25th, 2009 from Port-au-Prince to Les Cayes, the team will travel to Torbeck and Kay Ti-Moun Bondye clinic and Sainte. Therese Church as well as the local hospital in Les Cayes, before ending their adventure on Saturday, August 1st, 2009.
With a medical bag full of hope and a heart full of compassion and kindness, the volunteers of the Gaskov Clergé Foundation (gaskov.org) are committed to uplifting the morale of those who are disheartened. Thus, they march ahead this summer hoping to once again affect the life of an extra person, a single family, a mother, a father, a child, a countryman, a fellow brother or sister.
