Report Buyer, has added a new report that claims the demand for asphalt in China will rise five percent annually to 16.8 million metric tons in 2012.

The report “Asphalt in China: Industry Study with Forecasts to 2012 & 2017”, available online suggests the asphalt industry will be supported by China's continuing urbanization and modernization. Central and local governments will continue to invest extensively in asphalt as part of their long-term development plans.

According to the new report, demand for asphalt used in roofing products in China is expected to expand 4.0 percent through 2012. Asphalt shingles are increasingly used for sloped-roof construction in China, therefore the industry will benefit from the many ongoing flat to slope roof conversion projects.

The 205 page report shows that asphalt markets in the six regions that make up China vary considerably. There are vast differences in levels of construction activity, industrial output and economic development. The Central-East is expected to remain the largest regional asphalt market in China through 2012, fuelled by increases in regional construction expenditures. However, the report shows that asphalt consumption will climb at a much faster pace in the Southwest and Northwest regions due to the government’s Great Western Development strategy, which aims at improving the infrastructure and overall economic development in these areas.
