Susan Folckemer, CPM, Executive Vice President for The Preiss Company, was recently a panelist at the Women in Real Estate event held on April 1st at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The annual event discussed the current real estate market and issues that women face in the industry, as well as highlighted successful women.
In addition to TPCO, the panel was comprised of women professionals representing Highwoods Properties, CB Richard Ellis, and Green Fire Development. The panelists discussed current market conditions, predictions for the capital markets, and future development. Folckemer said that although the focus of the event was geared towards women in the industry, several male students were in attendance as well.
“I always welcome the opportunity to meet with other real estate professionals and discuss the state of the industry,” said Folckemer. “Real estate is not just my career, it’s my passion, and the opportunity to share my knowledge with fellow professionals is truly rewarding. The fact that several men attended this event not only indicated the importance these professionals have placed on understanding the market conditions, but also their need to learn about how they will be able to secure a job in the industry once they graduate.”
During her seven years with TPCO, Folckemer has overseen the development and acquisition of over 8,000 multi-family beds and secured lending for over $350,000,000 in development and investment property. She has served as President for both Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women (TCREW) and the Institute of Real Estate Management Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter (IREM) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC). She is also involved in the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors (TCAR), Certified Commercial Investment Manager (CCIM), and National Apartment Association (NAA).
