After purchasing its first SimWelder™ in 2008, the Australian Army will increase its welding training capacity by adding six new units. The installation will include training capabilities for GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) for mild steel butt welds and aluminum tee, corner and butt welds in multiple positions, as well as SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) for mild steel tee and butt welds in multiple positions.
With most military vehicles and equipment made of metal, welding is a critical skill for construction, repair and maintenance both on and off the battlefield.
