Yesterday evening the John Palmer Art team held the first in a series of private discussions on art with John Palmer, a select small audience and a featured speaker. The gallery and studio graciously welcomed Deborah Norsworhty of Layfayette, Louisiana to speak about the presidential bust series that will be on museum display at the Children's Museum of Acadiana this summer as well as general commentary on John Palmer's art, career and vision.

Norsworthy spoke with eloquence about the current display at the museum entitled "Chagall for Children" and drew a parallel between the two artists: Chagall and Palmer. She said that the tie is not visible in the artwork but more in the men as individuals and a shared belief system. Marc Chagall (1887-1985) achieved fame and fortune over the course of a very long career. Norsworthy, however, commented on both artists' desire to make art available to the people. While it is undoubtedly true that John Palmer and Marc Chagall original artwork can cost a pretty penny, both men have a common principle that artwork should be available and enjoyed by the masses and not just the seasoned gallery collector. The idea that Palmer embraces sending the presidential bust series to public display in a children's musuem, is vitange John Palmer and a perfect illustration of Norsworthy's comparison.

Palmer also spoke about his art movement of Escapism and the idea that it is not only a style of artwork but also a mental ideal to constantly improve one's self and the world around them. He noted that Escapism is not about finding an escape from life's problems. "Escapism," Palmer ellaborated, "is about overcoming life's challenges to become the person you are truly meant to be." The artwork and its vibrant style is a beautiful byproduct of Palmer's life energy. The art is refined, majestic and hectic: not gloom and doom.
