He replaces co-founder Stephen Richardson PhD who will continue to serve as Chief Financial Officer and a strategic advisor.

Dr Bess is a senior pharmaceutical executive with 28 years of demonstrated success in Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance. He is an FDA-recognized expert on Drug Safety and a high-energy leader with a strong commitment to quality. He has a proven track record of building high performance Drug Safety organizations. He has written numerous safety-related articles, abstracts, letters, and editorials for medical and industry journals.
Prior to joining American Health Systems Corporation, Dr Bess was Vice President and Head of Clinical Drug Safety & Epidemiology at Novartis (2000-2008), Vice President and Head of Drug Safety at Hoffmann-La Roche (1994-2000), Drug Safety Section Head, Hoffmann-La Roche (1988-1994), and Head of Drug Safety & Medical Affairs at Abbott Laboratories (1982-1988).
Dr Bess obtained his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He did his postgraduate medical training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the Albert Einstein Medical Centers in Philadelphia, PA. He is on staff at The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University and The Albert Einstein Medical Center.
