Since 1999, Futons Now has been offering fine quality wood futon products, mattresses and fabric futon coverings online through its company website for shoppers throughout the United States. Over the last 10 years, they have provided products online by such notable manufacturers as August Lotz, SIS Covers, Omni Softgoods, LifeStyle Covers, Night & Day, Ramblin Wood as well as many others.
The website was founded in March 1999 by then CEO and President Michael Stine as an online extension of the successful futon division of LifeStyles Furniture, its parent store with a showroom located in Moline, IL. The internet was still very young back then and this was one of the first stores online to offer futon products to customers throughout the USA. LifeStyles Furniture was able to bring futons to customers in remote areas or shoppers without specialty futon stores in their area and found success.
Phil Pendleton, Marketing Manager for Futons Now had this to say about the start-up of the business online. “Futons Now was able to set precedence in the market early by offering UPS shippable futon frames that could be shipped at a low cost to customers and designed exclusively for LifeStyles Furniture,” he said. “These early frames were made in the United States from quality ash hardwood and were available in five different styles which would ship from our Moline, IL warehouse,” he informed us. “We packaged these frames with futon mattresses made in Wisconsin and these American products sold quite well allowing for the site to expand its offerings online,” he said.
“One of the things that helped the site to be successful was a knowledgeable sales staff. These professionals at the store level had first hand experience and knowledge about the various products being offered online,” Mr. Pendleton continued to explain. “This type of store would become known as “click and mortar” where an online store also had a real physical store location you could also visit.” he said. “This was very helpful to customers calling in as products were already on the showroom making it easy for sales staff to answer and address the same questions and concerns that customers in the showroom would also have,” Mr. Pendleton explained.
Today, Futons Now continues to move forward by offering new product lines and futon products in an ever changing marketplace. Among some of the new product lines are futon convertibles. These are futon frames that are upholstered and operate much in the same fashion as classic futon frame designs. Many of today’s futons come about 90% of the way assembled in their boxes which changes how futons ship as many go with truckline or common carrier services now. More futon cover fabrics are also available than ever before providing more choices in how a futon can look and feel.
As part of the celebration online, Futons Now (futonsnow.com) will be offering customers different specials and prices on items throughout the rest of the year. Futons Now would like to thank its customers for the continued success they have had with help from their customers. They look forward to serving the futon needs of their customers in the years to come.
