NewswireTODAY - /newswire/ - London, United Kingdom, 2009/04/12 - Taiwan Cinefest opens Wednesday 15th April for Five Days Showcasing the latest Taiwanese Films.

The Taiwan Cinefest will open its five-day 2009 festival with a panel discussion on the future of Taiwanese Cinema. Attending the panel will be well known East Asian cinema expert Professor Chris Berry of Goldsmith College and Xiao Xiao Sun, Festival Director of the annual London Filming East Festival.

Six feature films will run during the festival including a London premiere of “Parking”, as well three UK premieres - steamy romance “My So-Called Love”, multi-award winner “The Most Distant Course”, off-beat comedy “What on Earth Have I Done?!”. Additionally there will be an opportunity to see box office smash and Taiwan’s official entry into this year’s Academy Awards, “Cape No 7”, and teen heart-throb drama “Winds of September”.

Joining the film line-up will also be classic documentaries “Taipei Bohemians” following the lives of several struggling Taipei artists and “Jump Boys!” a popular favorite investigating the pressures applied to a group of six year olds as they attempt to become elite athletes in Taiwan.

“Parking” and “Cape no 7” will be screened at the Coronet Cinema in Notting Hill with the remaining feature films being screened at Westbourne Studios.

During the festival there will be a number of free events including a panel discussion on the future of Taiwanese Cinema. Additionally, there will be a special showcase for up and coming new Taiwanese film making talent featuring over 10 short narrative and animated shorts.
