There are hundreds, sometimes thousands, of filings at the FCC every day but most companies are interested in only a few specific subject areas. A new company monitors the FCC Electronic Comment Filing System and sends targeted daily notices of new filings directly to their customers based on subjects (docket numbers) that each customer specifies.
The company says it will also offer other methods of tracking filings, such as whenever a certain company files or when a certain law firm files. Anything is possible. It's more a matter of customer demand than anything else. The information is garnered from the FCC Electronic Comment Filing System which is the repository for official filings and rule makings of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The technology is open for public testing. Potential users (telecoms, attorneys, entertainment industry, any company that interacts with the FCC) are encouraged to try the service during the test period which ends July 31, 2006. Go their website, enter up to five docket numbers (you should know in advance which docket numbers you are interested in), enter your email address and click the SUBMIT button. Within a day or two, you will receive a confirmation and start receiving the filing notifications by email whenever a filing is received by the FCC under one of your specified dockets. The notifications will include the docket title, date received by the FCC, the filing party name, who filed the docket (if available) and a hyperlink to the actual document at the FCC.
Suggestions for improvements are appreciated. After the trial period, the company will offer the service on a subscription basis. The fees have not been determined at the time of this release.
