Global art insurance specialist, AXA Art announced that it has commissioned New York artist Jason Hackenwerth to create a unique visual installation for its lounge at Art Chicago. Hackenwerth will transform the AXA Art space into a whimsical respite for its guests and visitors in attendance at the fair -- which will be held May 1-4 this year at Chicago’s iconic Merchandise Mart.
Jason Hackenwerth is best known for his larger-than-life, inflatable sculptures. Relying almost exclusively on the warm, humid air from his lungs, Hackenwerth breathes temporary life into latex and manipulates thousands of colorful balloons to create whimsical, transient works of art, reminiscent of prehistoric sea animals - evolution gone wild.
With an MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and BFA from Webster University, Hackenwerth has exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Design, NY; Art Basel Miami Beach; Jang Heung Art Museum, Seoul, Korea; Peabody Museum, CT; and completed numerous commissions for public and private clients.
“Jason Hackenwerth’s work exudes wonder and excitement. We look forward to showing his thoughtful transformation of the AXA Art lounge to art-loving visitors at Art Chicago.” commented Vivian Ebersman, AXA Art’s Director Art Expertise.
