Jim White, training director for Shermco Industries, will present ‘An Update to the NFPA 70E Guidelines for Electrical Safety’ at the 76th Annual International Conference of Doble Clients held in Boston March 29 through April 3.

Hosted by Doble Engineering, the Conference is designed exclusively by and for the benefit of the electric utility and testing company delegates. The Conference program is created by nine client committees, each having unique expertise in a particular area. As a NETA representative to the 70E committee, Jim White will share with attendees the changes made to the 70E as well as the reasons why they were adopted.

“The NFPA 70E has become the primary reference for electrical safety,” said White. “It is important that industry professionals know and understand the latest changes in the standard to ensure the safety of their operations.”

White is the training director for Shermco Industries, a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system training. He was the chairman of the 2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Electrical Safety Workshop and the NETA representative on the Research Testing and Planning Committee (RTPC) working group for the IEEE/NFPA collaborative project investigating arc flash hazards. White is a principal member of the technical committee “Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance” (NFPA 70B) and an alternate member of the Technical Committee on “Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace” (NFPA 70E). He also serves on the Doble Engineering Transformer Committee, Doble Asset Management Committee, and the Doble Circuit Breaker Committee. He is vice chair of the Doble Transformer Field Processing Sub-Committee. A regular columnist for the NEC Digest “Safety Corner”, Jim is also a columnist for “Tech Quiz” and “NFPA 70E and NETA” for the trade journal NETA World. He is a NETA Certified Level IV Senior Test Technician; an OSHA authorized Outreach Instructor for General Industry; and an Inspector Member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
