Adesta, a systems integrator and project management company for communication networks and electronic security systems, has been awarded a $2.7M contract to design and install an access control system as well as a fiber based, fence mounted perimeter intrusion detection and CCTV/radar waterside surveillance system for Pasadena Refining Systems, Inc. The project began in March, 2009 and is taking place at the Pasadena Texas gasoline refinery. It is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
This project will provide the base systems for access control, CCTV and perimeter intrusion detection. Wireless back up systems and fiber infrastructure will be installed to bring all security data back to a central control center. The convergence of the physical security elements coupled with the fiber backbone will provide for ongoing upgrade and improvement opportunities.
The system will include shore-based radar for monitoring traffic on the ship channel passing by and near the plant facilities. Because of Adesta’s extensive port and waterway experience, they were able to research from experience and recommend the Future Fiber Technologies fiber-based perimeter intrusion system. This project will help bring PRSI into compliance with Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulations, specifically within the Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) access control requirements. It will also give them a protected waterfront and perimeter in one of the most critical commercial seaways in the United States, the Houston Ship Channel Industrial Complex.
