WomenCertified® today announced that it is honoring Burvin Pugh and Susan W. Sweetser, both of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual), with the first annual WomenCertified Vision Award for advocating and driving change to better meet the needs of women consumers in the financial services industry.
According to WomenCertified, the Vision Award is given to leaders across various industries that are influential in raising the standards of service in their industry and are actively involved in promoting initiatives that accomplish this important goal of advocacy for women consumers.
WomenCertified founder Delia Passi stated, “We chose to honor MassMutual’s Susan Sweetser and Burv Pugh because they are strong forces in the movement to make financial services a more women-friendly environment for both consumers and employees. Susan has been a great supporter of women-specific training and increasing the number of female advisors in the company, and Burv has been incredibly vocal in his commitment to increasing and empowering women in the workforce.”
Pugh is the senior vice president of Sales and Distribution for MassMutual’s United States Insurance Group (USIG), and Sweetser is the vice president of agency marketing for the company’s USIG division. Pugh, a Certified Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant, joined MassMutual in 1986, working his way up through several positions focused on developing the company’s career agents. Sweetser produced MassMutual’s “Never Kissed a Frog. Never Had To.” financial education seminar series for women and is a Certified Financial Planner and a Chartered Financial Consultant. She is a member of the New York and Vermont Bar Associations, is an adjunct professor of Business Law at St. Michael’s College and is a former two-term Vermont State Senator.
Passi continued, “Women end up with sole control of household wealth in nine out of 10 cases, and they make well over 50 percent of investment decisions. It’s time for financial companies to take a closer look at the needs and expectations of their most influential market.”
Passi will present the award to the co-recipients on Tuesday, March 24 at 12:30 pm. in the Exhibit Hall at the GAMA Lamp Conference in Atlanta.
Throughout 2009, WomenCertified will be honoring Vision Award recipients from various industries. This is WomenCertified’s second Vision Award announcement this year, as automotive industry recipients Annette Sykora, chairperson of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and John Lyboldt, the Vice President of Dealership Operations at the NADA, were announced in January at the NADA Convention and Expo in New Orleans.
WomenCertified (womencertified.com) is a certification program and accolade for sales and service teams who complete a specialized training on gender communications and women friendly sales and service practices. Passi stated, “WomenCertified is creating a customer service revolution for women by setting the standard for excellence in service.”
