Savannah, GA, United States, 2009/02/26 - The Ford Plantation, one of the nation’s top luxury communities and private sporting clubs, recently hired hospitality industry veteran Bob Gusella as general manager. In his new position, Gusella oversees all Club activities at The Ford Plantation.

Gusella boasts more than 28 years of experience in various segments of the hospitality industry, including nearly 14 years in private club management. In 2004, he was recognized as one of the “Top 40 Business Leaders Under 40” by the Savannah Business Report & Journal, and was voted by his peers as “Club Manager of the Year” in the Carolinas for 2006-2007.
Before joining The Ford Plantation, Gusella served as the longtime general manager and chief operating officer at Wexford Plantation on Hilton Head Island, SC. Under his leadership, Wexford was twice recognized by Links magazine as a “Top 100 Golf Community” in the United States and earned numerous accolades.
Over the years, he has enjoyed management assignments at Marriott hotels in Northern Virginia and Houston, Tex., in addition to other restaurant and catering assignments. He also served as the banquet chef at the elite Four Seasons – Washington, D.C. and as the clubhouse manager at prestigious Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md. During his tenure at the club, Woodmont Country Club was recognized as the #1 private club in Maryland, ranked #7 in the U.S. and named a Platinum Club of America.
Gusella is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., where he earned his B.B.A. in Hotel & Restaurant Management. He joined the Marriott Corporation immediately out of college and completed the rigorous Food and Beverage Management ID training program in Washington, D.C.
An avid teacher, Gusella has taught Club Management courses as an adjunct faculty member at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort, served on the Hospitality Advisory Council at James Madison University, and remains involved in many civic and community organizations.
Bob currently serves as President of the Carolinas Chapter of Club Managers Association of America, participates actively in the organization on a national level, and enjoys speaking to students and fellow managers at workshops and national conferences. He is an active community volunteer and serves as an Elder at Central Church of God on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Bob and his wife, Penny, live on Hilton Head Island, S.C. with their children, Christina and Garrett.
