The Certified Medical Coder, Certified Medical Insurance Specialist, and Certified Medical Office Manager certifications, administered by PMI, are listed along with other health care career certifications on the Career Voyages government website.
The Career Voyages website is the result of collaboration between the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to provide information on in-demand occupations along with the skills and education needed to attain those jobs. PMI’s certifications appear in the health care section.
PMI’s certifications are also listed on CareerOneStop, a Department of Labor-sponsored site that offers career resources and workforce information to job seekers, students, businesses, and workforce professionals to foster talent development in a global economy. Additionally, PMI has received confirmation from a source at the Department of Labor that its three certifications will appear later this year in the 2010-2011 edition of the Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, and on the main DOL website.

The Certified Medical Coder credential has received recognition by employers such as the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and payers like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS cited PMI as an example of an acceptable certification for its Intermediary Provider Customer Service Program, part of the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act.
