Fresh from the much Twittered and blogged about O’Reilly’s Tools of Change 2009 Conference in New York City on February 9-11, one of the publishing industry’s key thought-leaders, Andrew Savikas of O’Reilly Media, will bring his vision to Phoenix on February 28th. As one of the lead presenters at Arizona Book Publishing Association’s (ABPA) annual conference, Realities of Publishing: Preparing for Changes in the Industry, Savikas will discuss how changing technology is producing Different Distribution Models for content.

“All publishing is now digital publishing, and all writing is now writing for the Web,” says Savikas. “Print will always be an important delivery method for content, but we are much closer than most people realize to the day when more people will read a given book digitally than in print.”

Savikas joins a full panel of experts at this year’s all-day conference including Grael Norton of Wheatmark, Inc., Tucson, AZ; Victoria Blake of Underland Press, Portland OR; Kevin Smokler, of booktour.com, San Francisco CA; and Jessica Tribble of Poisoned Pen Press, Scottsdale, AZ. Presentations will cover everything from technology to production planning, distribution models to social networking and will be held at the jobing.com corporate office, 4747 N. 22nd St, Suite #100 in Phoenix. The cost for the all day conference is $109 for ABPA members and $129 for non-members and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

About Andrew Savikas
Andrew became interested in publishing and technology while in college working at The Daily Illini at the University of Illinois. It was his first exposure to both desktop publishing software and to true publishing automation. Following that, he wrote PageMaker and Word macros, which led him to buy O'Reilly's "Writing Word Macros." On the back was AN ad saying O’Reilly was hiring and he soon found himself in Boston. Today Andrew is the VP of Digital Initiatives at O'Reilly Media, and is the Program Chair for O'Reilly's Tools of Change for Publishing Conference. He blogs at toc.oreilly.com, and is also a regular contributor to the O'Reilly Radar blog.

Andrew has worked on several key publishing technology initiatives at O'Reilly (toccon.com), including the design and deployment of an open-standards-based XML content distribution platform. Andrew is an advisor to Safari Books Online, O'Reilly's joint venture with Pearson Technology Group. His recent work has also included helping to plan and execute O'Reilly's ebook and digital publishing strategy. Andrew holds a B.S. in Media Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston. He is a frequent speaker at publishing and content management conferences, and is also the author of "Word Hacks: Tips & Tools for Taming your Text".
