Citigate Cunningham, one of the country’s leading technology PR agencies, was awarded a Magellan Award by the League of American Communications Professionals LLC for the sixth consecutive year. This year, the firm won a bronze award for its integrated social and traditional PR work on behalf of Acquia.
“Too many agencies divide social media from traditional with separate practices or leaders,” said Gary Thompson, Chairman of Citigate Cunningham. “Our passion has always been making a difference in our clients businesses and telling their stories as clearly and as often as we can through any media — new or traditional — has been the best way to accomplish that. We are proud of our work on Acquia and honored to be recognized for a campaign that successfully integrated social and traditional media.”
Citigate Cunningham launched Acquia to the Open Source community, spearheading the campaign with the following objectives: educate/establish the meme, position Acquia as the winner, drive immediate demand, and build support for Acquia. The team devised an integrated social and traditional media strategy to reach the target audience tackling the following types of outlets: business press, technology trades, Web 2.0 blogs, and influential analysts frequently quoted in the press. The results: Citigate Cunningham secured more than 100 media placements; 11 speaking engagements; and 2 award wins, with all the results mapping back to Acquia’s business objectives.
The 2008 Magellan Awards Communications Campaign Competition drew an unprecedented number of submissions representing a broad range of industries and organizational sizes. More than 450 entries representing upwards of half a dozen countries were received, so competition was exceptionally tough.
