NBS, a NJ based telecom carrier, reseller and managed services provider, recently introduced a new fax to email service. The service makes it easier for small and home-based businesses to send and receive faxes. Called “NBS Fax access Xchange" (or NBS F.a.X.) the system uses a web portal interface that allows users to create, send and receive fax documents from any desktop or internet-connected device. There is also a print driver option that permits the user to send a fax directly from any Windows application by choosing the NBS "FaxAgent" as the printer. Custom settings for both incoming and outgoing distribution groups can be defined, and users can organize, archive and search fax documents using a variety of message properties and filters.
Generic cover pages can be created, and custom cover pages are also available. The web portal includes applications for modifying personal settings, viewing folders (inbox, outbox, sent, etc), and managing documents. “Faxes are attached as either PDF or TIF files and can be sent or received via a web portal that seamlessly integrates with all major mail client software,” stated Miguel Lopez, NBS Project Coordinator. “This is great for users who refuse to send anything other than a hard copy; for these customers we provide premise devices to interconnect their fax machines to the NBS F.a.X. system via the company's LAN” he continued.
The company developed the service to be both economically and ecologically friendly. “For those concerned about the environment, eliminating a bulky fax machine will not only help you go green, but will save you some green as well” stated NBS Marketing Director Mike Salerno. “With no extra phone lines to pay for and by eliminating paper, ink and other supply costs, this service improves your bottom line; and in a tough economy, any service that cuts costs and helps you do your job better should be given serious consideration” he added.
An e-mail will usually get noticed more quickly than a paper fax, resulting in a quicker reply, which increases efficiency. “Also, for the typical company with centrally located fax machines, confidential documents are often just spit out and left in the open for all to see” stated company president Russell P. Markman. “Our system eliminates that, you can’t get more secure than to have documents faxed directly to your inbox” he stated.
This service is provisioned using either existing fax numbers or via the assignment of new DIDs in certain local areas. NBS also offers nationwide tollfree availability. With pricing as low as $5 per user, NBS F.a.X. is ideal for businesses that want to cut costs and improve productivity, while staying environmentally friendly.
