Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) announced the names of those that will benefit from ADC's 2008 scholarships program during a special event organized at the Princess Basma Development Center in Aqaba.
The event was held Under the Patronage of H.E. Eng. Husni Abu Ghaida, Chief Commissioner of ASEZA and attended by the beneficiaries of the scholarships program and their families.
ADC launched this program back in 2006 and in the last three years it has provided 50 students with scholarships. This year, ADC provided 16 scholarships to students at all levels.
This initiative comes as part of ADC’s social responsibility towards the residents of Aqaba. It also falls in line with ASEZA’s strategy to provide students with the necessary skill set to work in fields of high demand. A detailed stringent process was formed to select the most eligible students for the scholarships in line with criteria and conditions implemented by the Princess Basma Development Center and concerned parties.
Eng. Imad Fakhoury, ADC’s CEO stated, “Education is the most important pillar for the development of human resources in Aqaba, and it is also a priority for the development of a nation. It is important to enhance the living standards and conditions of underprivileged students by providing them with an equal opportunity for education. This will allow those students to keep up with the economic changes while catering to the needs of their local community." He went on to say, "His Majesty King Abdullah II believes that education will create a generation that is capable of meeting the current and future needs of the local job market, therefore the scholarships program will allow ADC to complement His Majesty's vision for Aqaba."
ADC signed a memorandum of understanding with Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) in late 2006 whereby ADC offers 16 scholarships to students in Aqaba who have obtained High School (Tawjihi) diplomas and those who wish to pursue a higher education. ADC funds these scholarships and covers all tuition fees in addition to a JD50 monthly allowance for each student. For its part, JUHOD manages and closely monitors the scholarships.
