Federal Way, WA, United States, 2009/01/12 - Beer and cake? You bet! After trying beer with cake, you may never turn to milk again. Enjoy beer paired with cake at 99 Bottles beer store’s second annual Beer & Cake Fest.
The Beer & Cake Fest marks the second anniversary of 99 Bottles, a bottle shop in Federal Way, which carries over 900 different beers from nearby microbrewed craft beers, to imports from Belgium, Germany, England, and more than 40 other countries.
The Beer & Cake fest will feature five beers—including fruit lambics, Belgian-style dubbels and strong dark ales, and stouts—served alongside rich chocolate cake with a cream cheese filling.
Beer with chocolate cake, really?
Chocolatey desserts pair perfectly with dark beers that have lots of body, alcohol, and roasty character. Stout beers are made with dark barley malt, which keeps them dry and roasty, while offsetting the sweet, fatty weight of the chocolate. Like stouts, Belgian-style dubbels and dark ales are also roasty, but offer flavors of caramel, sweet candy sugar, and dark fruit. And while lambics are available in many flavors, the raspberry lambic known as "framboise" makes a perfect complement to a slice of rich chocolate cake, creating flavors reminiscent of a raspberry truffle.
It’s only $2.50 to sample the five beers, get a piece of cake, and enter the beer-gear raffle on Tuesday, January 20th from 4:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at 99 Bottles. This is an open-house event.

Tired of getting stuck with six of the same kind of beer, they opened a bottle shop in Federal Way. With 28 styles of beer, there's a flavor of beer for every mood -- from lagers and ales, to hard cider and mead -- and you can select single bottles to create custom mix-packs. 99 Bottles beer store has over 900 beers to choose from, including beer from 20 Washington microbreweries and nearly 50 countries.
