DFRC AG, a leader in data fusion technology, launches the first of many airport maps that enables the viewer to track the progress of airborne flights in real time, cleverly displaying them on a world map. Travelers can now follow any flight’s progress to and from London Heathrow and view its real location on a dynamic world map.
Gone are the days of never-ending arrivals/departures tables that give only limited information. Today’s travelers want to know more – they want to see where the flight is right now, not just when it is expected to land.
London Heathrow is the first example of the new system because of the high number of daily flights and the variety of destinations it covers: Heathrow Airport is serves over 90 airlines which fly to 170 destinations worldwide carrying over 67 million passengers annually. Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in the world, is now covered by DFRC’s WWATC live maps.
“WWATC is a first in the travel world. It is the first time that data fusion technology has been utilised to effectively map real time flights from heterogeneous sources to and from major airports. Today’s’ traveler demands more visual information, faster than ever” says Will Windsor, Project Manager at DFRC “and this is exactly what WWATC is providing. We have received great feedback from the industry and believe that this is how the airline industry will display all flights in the future.”
London Heathrow is the first airport to be used to launch the service, but DFRC plans to add an additional 100 airports, 50 airlines and several individual country maps by the end of 2009.
For more information about the system or to see real-time flight arrivals and departures from your airport, please contact DFRC or take a look at live flights to and from London Heathrow Airport on the WWATC website (wwatc.com).
