Traditional methods have involved a full neoprene glove with a rubber palm print but this puts quite a thick layer of rubber between the bare hand and the paddle shaft which many kayakers dislike.

Lomo have tackled this problem by using a material normally used in the sailing world for its water resisting properties. Amara, sometimes referred to as synthetic leather, is a thin material that is both warm, water resistant, yet very abrasion resistant. This allows the wearer to remain warm but still feel the paddle shaft well through the material. Amara is also particularly abrasion resistant which makes it suitable for working with ropes and lines. Kayakers are particularly exposed to skin friction when using rescue lines or tow lines and their adversity to waring gloves makes this problem worse. These new gloves should allow kayakers to both stay warm and protected.
