In July 2008, quality assurance experts from Dräger Medical Lübeck (DML) and Software Quality Systems AG (SQS) visited Auriga to assess its software development processes and software quality management tools and define process improvement measures for both companies.
SPICE (Software Process Improvement Capability Determination, also known as ISO/IEC TR 15504) is a maturity-based model used for process improvement, and capability determination. A focused assessment was performed of the following software development areas: Primary Lifecycle, Organizational Lifecycle and Supporting Lifecycle.
The assessment process lasted three days (July 1-3) and included detailed interviewing of the Auriga managers and key members of the engineering and service teams. It helped Auriga and Draeger to work out strategic objectives aimed at assuring SPICE compliance, and provided Draeger with an insight into Auriga’s development policies.
Auriga has demonstrated its ability to develop life-critical software and is now officially listed as one of the suppliers for Dräger Medical Lübeck. A new contract will be signed between Auriga and Draeger Medical Germany (Draeger’s German parent company). Auriga has successfully participated in different projects for the Draeger US subsidiary for several years, and is involved in the development of embedded software for safety-critical medical systems. To ensure high performance level and successful cooperation, it is important that both companies use common standards. The results of the SPICE assessment will help Auriga to establish development process benchmarks, adopt a sound audit policy and streamline the quality assurance processes.
Auriga provides software development services compliant with FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485, and performs Validation and Verification services for vendors of Class II and III medical devices. The partnership between Draeger Medical and Auriga has been going since 2003, and is an example of effective alliance between the customer and an offshore IT outsourcing provider. In 2008, Auriga was named to “Best 10 Companies by Industry Focus: Health Care” of the 2008 Global Outsourcing 100 List by IAOP.
