On Wednesday, November 12, 2008, KidsMatter, together with Mayor Pradel and the Naperville City Council, will honor 15 teens for their significant, hands-on and ongoing community service efforts during the 2008 Naperville Youth Service Awards. This annual community program will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at the City Municipal Center, 400 South Eagle Street.
Since 1993, the City of Naperville has presented the Naperville Youth Service Award to recognize and honor outstanding volunteer efforts by local Naperville area students and to encourage all youth to get involved in community service.
Nominations for this year’s awards came from 15 local organizations and agencies that specifically provide young people with opportunities to volunteer their time and energy. The volunteer opportunities give teens a sense of purpose, provide them with valuable hands-on experiences they can build on into adulthood, and ignite the volunteer spirit that has helped make Naperville the thriving community it is today.
The award ceremony will be held in Council Chambers with the Mayor and members of Council honoring each individual student as well as recognizing their nominating organization. Each student will receive the Naperville Youth Service Award Pin, a framed certificate and a custom frame into which they will be able to place a photo of themselves receiving their award from the Mayor and City Council.
During the event there will be a musical performance by The Young Naperville Singers and a post-award reception compliments of Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria.
“The Mayor, City Council and KidsMatter are proud to honor these 15 students who have given their time, energy and heart to make a positive difference in the lives of other people and to make Naperville a better place in which to live” said IdaLynn Wenhold, Executive Director of KidsMatter.
The highest reward for a person's work is not what they get for it, but what they become because of it.
