Dublin, OH, United States, 2008/09/29 - Butler Animal Health Supply announces their recent accreditation as a Verified Accredited Wholesale Distributor® (VAWD®) at two of their 16 warehouse branches: Fort Worth Texas and Tualatin Oregon.

The Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors (VAWD®) accreditation is a program of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) for wholesale distributors. NABP® developed VAWD® in response to the Food and Drug Administration's Counterfeit Drug Task Force findings and recommendation for NABP® to update its Model Rules for the Licensure of Wholesale Distributors.
As a result, NABP® revised its Model Rules for the Licensure of Wholesale Distributors, which were originally developed in 1987 to assist states with the implementation of the Prescription Drug Marketing Act, and created an accreditation program and information clearinghouse for wholesale distributors to combat counterfeit drugs.
The NABP®-VAWD® accreditation reinforces Butler Animal Health Supply’s strategic commitment to protect and maintain the integrity of their pharmaceutical products distributed to veterinarians. Butler is currently in the process of receiving accreditation for its entire 16 warehouse locations that are strategically positioned through the U.S. to provide optimal fulfillment services for their customers.

VAWD® identifies legitimate and legally operating wholesale distributors and verifies compliance with state and federal laws for wholesale distribution to protect the public from the threat of counterfeit drugs, which could infiltrate the United States medication supply. Additionally, VAWD® accreditation relieves wholesale distributors of the burden of seller-to-buyer due diligence as may be required by law.
Once NABP® verifies that an applicant meets the appropriate federal and state laws and VAWD® program criteria, and has successfully completed background and NABP® Clearinghouse checks, as well as the on-site survey, accreditation is awarded.
As a NABP®-VAWD® designee, Butler Animal Health Supply will be subject to an on-site survey of their warehouse facilities at any time to verify compliance and must schedule an on-site survey every three years to maintain accreditation.
